The project “Sustainable Urban Development – Smart Cities II” (SUDSC II) is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project seeks to address the challenges arising from climate-related disasters in partner states and cities.

The project proposes to set up a Community of Practice (CoP) on the topic of ‘Moving towards Circular Economy' in the city of Coimbatore by bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders, including decision makers, waste management experts, practitioners, urban planners, academics, private sector working on the topic of waste and circular economy to discuss and deliberate experiences for setting up of CoP on municipal solid waste (MSW) in Coimbatore. Furthermore, the event seeks to share national and international case studies or best practices.

This event will be organised on 05 September 2023 as a day-long hybrid event in Coimbatore and hosted on the Connective Cities platform to facilitate exchange of experiences with experts and officials from partners cities. The launch of CoP on circular economy is expected to enhance knowledge and understanding of concepts related to circular economy, opportunities for identifying actionable solutions through collaboration among stakeholders. It could also potentially help develop innovative solutions for moving towards circular economy for the city.
