Urban Conference and Launch of Communities of Practice (CoP)_25 April 2023

Samrat Banerjee

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH are jointly implementing the ‘Sustainable Urban Development – Smart Cities II‘ (SUDSC II) project on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The key components of the project include policy support, capacity building, peer-to-peer learning, and digital innovation.

Among other interventions, SUDSC II intends to support setting up of Communities of Practice (CoP) to facilitate knowledge sharing from the local, state, national, and global experiences on the various initiatives undertaken for promoting sustainable urban development. It is envisaged that the creation of CoPs will enable exchange of ideas and innovative practices for promoting sustainable urban development. Three thematic areas have been identified in consultation with the national, state and city partners:

  • Municipal Finance for Urban Governance
  • Digital Transformation for Sustainable Urban Development
  • Climate-Resilient Infrastructure

In this regard, the project is organising a day-long event (hybrid mode) for launching of the Communities of Practice with the intention of creating a peer-to-peer network for exchanging state-of-the-art knowledge and experiences on the three thematic areas. The event aims to bring together government officials, national and international experts, academic, think-tanks, practitioners, among others to share their experiences and knowledge on the subject.
