By the year 2100, coastal flooding in cities from sea-level rise will affect between 158–510 million people and expose USD 7.9–12.7 billion of infrastructural assets to flood damage. With the trends in urbanization seen today, emissions, populations, finance, infrastructure and vulnerability to climate risks are being concentrated in urban areas. Cities and urban regions are both key locations for innovation, climate mitigation, adaptation, and climate resilient development.

As part of our side event at the African Climate Summit 2023, the panel discussion held will highlight the essential role of cities and the importance of municipal preparedness” and aims to bring attention to the importance of cities in combatting climate change.
