Insight Moment Session on the combined topic of Downscaling - Projecting GCM data at the city scale with the Cumulative impact assessment on multiple stresses on the water sector at the municipal level

Biodiversity loss, desertification, climate change, and environmental and groundwater degradation are some of the major environmental and social challenges faced today. A major obstacle that stands in the way of carrying out such assessments is the lack of data at sub-national scales.
Climate change downscaling has been proven to be one of the most effective methods in harnessing local level climate data, to be used for decision making. In this Insight Moment, Dr. Shrestha from the Asian Institute of Technology will guide us through the various fundamentals of cumulative impact assessment and climate change downscaling, such as:

  • The framework of Climate Change impact assessments
  • What data and tools are available?
  • How to access future climate data for use in impact assessments
  • Selection of climate models (criteria)
  • Carrying out local level downscaling of climate change data.
  • Case study - Climate and Land-use Change Impacts on Spatiotemporal Variations in Groundwater Recharge: A Case Study of the Bangkok Area, Thailand

Dr. Sangam Shrestha is Professor and Chair of Water Engineering and Management Program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand. He is also a Visiting Faculty of the University of Yamanashi, Japan, National University of Laos, and a Research Fellow of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan. His research interests are within the field of hydrology and water resources including, climate change impact assessment and adaptation in the water, integrated water resources management, and groundwater assessment and management.

Join us for this Insight moment of the WG-RIUD on the May 12th from 10:00 to 11:00h (CET time).
