Artificial intelligence (AI) has great potential for improving disaster risk management in Southern Africa by utilizing its strengths in analysing data, prediction, and response optimization. AI-powered systems can study a variety of datasets, including imagery from satellites, climate trends, demographics, and historical disaster information, to identify areas at risk of flooding, droughts, and wildfires. Machine learning algorithms can create predictive models that foresee the likelihood and severity of future disasters, allowing authorities to prioritize planning and response activities. Furthermore, AI-powered systems can improve disaster response by optimizing resource allocation, methods of evacuation, and relief distribution using continuous data streams and situational awareness.
