We would like to cordially invite you to our Insight Session on “The Sponge City Concept and Implementation Potentials in Sub-Saharan Africa” delivered by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Köster and Ms. Anna Thoms from the Institute for Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy of Leibniz University Hannover.

Despite growing global interest in the implementation of Sponge Cities, which aim to create resilient and liveable urban regions, their potential is not yet fully realised in many fast-growing cities in sub-Saharan Africa. The term Sponge City itself describes already the main purpose of the concept: A blue-green water management infrastructure is created alongside traditional grey drainage systems, allowing rainwater to be collected, treated, stored and later released as an additional urban water resource.

In the upcoming webinar, the basic principles of the Sponge City concept will be introduced and specific strategies and examples of how this urban planning concept can be implemented and adapted in sub-Saharan African cities will be presented.

To welcome you during the event, please register/enroll and follow the instructions attached.
