Green Public Procurement for post-COVID-19 recovery

Expert/Trainer: Dr. Georgeta Auktor, DIE research fellow

The post-COVID-19 recovery calls for public sector strategies that enable fairer, cleaner and more sustainable local and regional economies. Municipalities can make an important contribution to these goals through green public procurement instruments for critical goods and services, such as food, energy, materials, and transportation. Such instruments can play an important role in reorienting demand and creating local and regional markets for such sustainable and regionally sourced products. The implementation of such policy instruments and procedures is not free of challenges. In this session we will discuss why green public procurement is important, what are the opportunities and potential barriers in implementation, and what knowledge and skills are needed, while drawing on examples and interactive exchange with the participants.
