Tourism Sector addressing the Pandemic - Working with Local Municipalities

In the frame of the Connective Cities virtual week, virtual events on Economic Response, Housing & Education will take place on Wednesday, November 25th. We cordially invite you to participate in our session on Tourism Sector addressing the Pandemic - Working with Local Municipalities.

This session offers cities and municipalities the opportunity to exchange on the impact of the pandemic upon the tourism sector. The devastating impacts of the COVID-19 crisis on the global tourism sector are well documented and evident in tourism destinations facing the sustained loss of revenues and jobs. Tourism stakeholder concerns are compounded by uncertainty about recovery timeframes, although governments worldwide have been actively planning and implementing recovery efforts.Municipal governments play a critical role in informing and facilitating national and higher-level subnational policy responses while initiating local level fiscal and measures support to help the tourism industry recover. Many municipalities are also focusing efforts on 'restarting' tourism to harmonize local community needs with future visitors better. Influencing these responses is a renewed focus on the triple bottom line sustainability of tourism, as well as changing traveller sentiment emerging from the crisis.

The sessions on Tourism will cover practical examples from Germany and Nepal on how the tourism sector responds to the Covid Crisis with the help of the local municipalities.

We are looking forward to your participation!
