With rapid urbanization and the global shift towards sustainable energy, there is a growing demand for green hydrogen. Africa's abundant renewable resources, such as solar and wind energy, present vast opportunities for green hydrogen production and distribution. Cities can leverage these resources to feed and develop their own industries, develop further innovative local clusters and a local hydrogen economy, create jobs, and drive economic growth while contributing to global climate goals.

The drive to develop the Green Hydrogen Exchange Working Group stems from the increasing global interest in green hydrogen as a key enabler for achieving climate goals and fostering economic development. As cities face the challenges of rapid urbanization, energy demand and climate change, green hydrogen presents a viable solution to meet these challenges sustainably. The working group aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, collaboration, and project development among cities, industry stakeholders and experts in the green hydrogen sector.
